Goodbye.
This year in 8th grade, I didn't really think that my teacher would be such an entertaining yet very informational. We all learned many things in our US History class and we didn't just learn about US History. We learned about each other as the school year continued on. As we all grew closer, we soon grew to know one another by the experiences we have had and we had a chance to give our opinions on lots of stuff because of the Daily Write Ups he has given us. Our knowledge of US government and history grew because of the way he taught us by repeating the terms or dates of events. His way of teaching us to remember events in history really impacts the amount I remember after months of review. The techniques he teaches us will be crucial in the future when we take US History in high school in 10th grade. Our group projects helped us learn from our flaws in information and we had to all work together because of it. The amount of times we have used Kahoot to remember history pushes our brains because it is a competitive game that we'd have to remember quickly based on the topic we choose to remember. Everyone has a wonderful time playing Kahoot until we get tired of it that we'd rather prefer that because after every time a few of us get something incorrect, he'll always correct our mistakes by refreshing our knowledge by lecturing for a few seconds about the reason why we were wrong and he explains everything about it. Although he sounds like a good teacher, he sometimes makes mistakes in Kahoot because the right answer would be false at times. Besides that, he really is a wonderful teacher. He tries his best to explain the material of an event in class. Other than in class, he stresses for us to try and learn information in our textbook every week and take notes on a specific chapter unit that we'll use for every quiz on Monday. After suffering for hours of that, the information I wrote down would always help me pass the quizzes I have taken. It gives many of us a chance to pass a quiz. As the year passed, I didn't really need the notes as much as I did in the beginning of the year because I got used to keeping the information in my head. Our skills in independent study gradually improved because of Mr. Thorson making us less dependent on him for information in class. In many classes in high school, my sisters have told me that they have to learn a lot of material away from home. This helps so much especially when it comes to going on vacation while school is still happening the time you're somewhere else. Luckily, because of this class, I get to learn more about history as my friends learn the same things I learn.
In my opinion, one of my favorite moments in history class would probably be whenever we would do minor debates about a specific topic. We would be able to appear in four different corners of the classroom. There is a slightly agree, strongly agree, slightly disagree, and strongly disagree opinion on the statement shown on the board or wall. It's a very enjoyable exercise because all of the people with the same opinion would have to put their heads together and brainstorm why their opinion is justified about the topic we're talking about. Sometimes, we would do these debates just so we can refresh our memory before we take a test. After every debate, Mr. Thorson would critique on our opinions by giving more facts to possibly change our opinion and move to a different side afterwards. These debates are really helpful and very entertaining when we hear other's opinions and their justifications. Mr. Thorson does these things because he wants to push us to do our best starting right now to get prepared for high school. I'd like to say thanks for encouraging all of us and pushing us to the best of our abilities. After all, my opinion of my knowledge changed because it expanded for thinking. I found out something about myself because of him. As a student of Mr. Thorson, I'd like to encourage the readers and say "You guys are AWESOME!"
